About Eduardo Angel

“What do you do for a living?”

I never know how to answer this seemingly simple question.

I consider myself a visual storyteller, but I also invest a big chunk of my time producing filmmaking workshops around the world, and working as a technology consultant.

I love wearing many hats, facing new challenges, and developing new skills. In essence, I spend most of my time collaborating with teams around the globe to transform ideas and products into visual stories.

Ancient History

Many moons ago I got a Bachelor of Architecture from Los Andes University (Bogota, Colombia), and after working as an architect for several years decided that I was not an architect who enjoyed photography, but a photographer who loved architecture, so I switched careers and got an MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Over the years I’ve been honored to teach at The School of Visual Arts (SVA), the International Center of Photography (ICP) and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), and speak at pretty much all major trade shows and industry events including NAB, Photokina (Germany), PhotoPlus Expo, Gulf Photo Plus (Dubai), and WPPI.

I worked for many years as an Adobe official Beta Tester for Lightroom and Premiere Pro, and have been a proud member of Tether Tools Pro, Tenba’s Visual Artists, and X-Rite’s Coloratti’s elite programs.

In 2014 I co-founded a Brooklyn-based production company called The Digital Distillery so we could provide clients with a wide variety of services, from location scouting to production and post. The same year I won an Emmy Award as a Director of Photography. I didn’t see that coming.

For years I have been producing lots and lots of educational content, essentially sharing the tricks and tips I wish someone taught me when I made the transition from photography to video back in 2008. You can see some of my work on LinkedIn Learning.

I’ve written a few books, but the most popular seems to be the last one; “Filmmaking Essentials for Photographers”.

Around the World Journey

After living in Brooklyn, New York for too long, my wife and I decided to travel the world for 18 months.

As we were finishing our journey, I was invited to give a TED Talk sharing some of the experiences and lessons from that life-changing journey. It was a life-changing experience.

Today

Having traveled to over 67 countries, I found a place that truly feels like home; Portugal. We all know about its famous beaches, and great wines, but the best Portugal has is it people.

The Portuguese culture in general, and its food, wines, music and architecture in particular inspired me to start a new project called EnoFragments, in collaboration with Manuel Moreira, one of the most respected Sommeliers and Wine Critics in Portugal.

While working on EnoFragments I share some “tips and tricks” about photography and video, and working on location as a one-person crew. For that I’ve created a blog, and a YouTube Channel and for other random stuff here’s my personal Instagram Page.

So, here’s what I “officially” do:

  • Director of Photography and Still Photographer (available worldwide)
  • Presenter of Storytelling Workshops and Lectures
  • My online CV is available here.
